What can be recycled on Marco Island? ›

Recycling in Marco Island includes plastic bottles, cans, paper and cardboard. The key to recycling the right way is ensuring your items are clean and dry. Keeping contaminants like food and liquid out of your recycling helps ensure that everything in your bin finds a second life.

Do not pour them on the ground or into storm drains. Bring household hazardous waste to your nearest drop-off center for environmentally safe disposal. Some items may be subject to a small disposal fee. Never place chemicals or other hazardous materials in your trash/recycle cart, this can result in a truck fire.

Bulky Item Pick Up

Bulky items include furniture, bicycles, sofas, mattresses, tables, sinks and other items too large to fit in your green trash cart. Bulky items should not exceed 4 feet and/or 50 pounds. Please call (239) 252-2380, 48 hours in advance for specialty bulky waste collection.

Collier County accepts foam polystyrene to be recycled into new materials. Foam polystyrene can only be dropped off at a Recycling Drop-Off Center. DO NOT place foam polystyrene in curbside recycling carts.

Next, take your paint cans to your nearest household waste recycling centre – your local council can let you know where this is. Here, plastic paint cans are disposed of responsibly and metal paint cans are sent for recycling.

Call 239-252-2380, 48 hours in advance to schedule collection of specialty bulky items such as appliances, electronics, standard vehicle tires and batteries.

Keeping your old mattress in good condition and unsoaked is the best way to save money, as it often costs more to recycle a wet or soaked mattress than a dry one. If your mattress has bed bugs in them, there are specific steps you need to take before a recycling center or transfer station is willing to pick it up.

Can I take my old mattress to the local tip? ›

While it's not an option we would recommend, you can of course take your old mattress to your local tip. However, to reduce the number of items we send to landfill each year, try to make use of other ways to dispose of your mattress instead.

Unfortunately, tea bags containing polypropylene aren't totally biodegradable – although they can be recycled in your food caddy. If you want to compost them at home, you can sift the plastic out later, or split the bags before you add them to your heap.

The City of Naples does not offer collection of electronic items. These items can be dropped off at Naples Recycling Drop-Off Center located at 2640 Corporate Flight Drive (west of Airport Road, north of the Naples Airport) 239-252-8735 Tuesday-Saturday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

In 2015, Miami Beach prohibited the sale and use of polystyrene, commonly referred to as Styrofoam. Following that ban, the state of Florida adopted a statute that preempted any polystyrene ordinance enacted by a local government before 2016. Under that statute, Miami Beach's ban was safe.
