Worthington Hills July 4th Parade: Safety, No Parking and Road Closure Info

The planning committee for our Worthington Hills July 4th Parade has been working closely with Perry
Township Police to ensure another safe and fun July 4th experience for our community! Here, we share
important parade safety, no parking, and road closure information that is essential to ensuring a safe
July 4th experience for all Worthington Hills residents and guests.

Child safety during the parade: Each year, we are alerted to instances of children running into parade traffic, usually while attempting to pick up candy, or to say hello to a friend in the parade. It’s everyone’s responsibility to address this safety issue. Most vehicles in the parade are large trucks or SUVs, and many are towing giant trailers or floats. Even the most cautious drivers have trouble seeing, and stopping for, children who run into the parade traffic. It is impossible for drivers to see children who run into the path of the large trailers that are behind them. To do our part, we continue to instruct all parade participants to hand candy directly to children, instead of throwing. Certainly, parent supervision is KEY to protecting child safety.

Parents and adults: Please remind children to stay behind the curb during the entire parade. Please also stay close to your children so you can spot potential parade traffic dangers and remind
them to remain out of parade traffic.

Golf carts: All golf carts must be driven by sober, licensed drivers who must obey all regular vehicle
traffic laws at all times.

July 4th traffic flow on Clubview: On Parade Day again this year, from 10 a.m. through noon, Clubview
North will be one-way only, heading northbound, from Highview to Hickory Ridge. This altered traffic
flow protects the safety of hundreds of parade participants (many of whom are children) who are
dropped off at the Blind Brook staging area before the parade. To avoid delays or inconveniences,
please keep this in mind if you must drive in the neighborhood on the morning of July 4th.

Road closures on July 4th: As before, traffic into Worthington Hills and at many entrances to Clubview
North and South, will stop at 11 a.m. on July 4th
, until the conclusion of the parade. If you are expecting
guests on July 4th , please notify them that they must arrive well before 11 a.m. to ensure access into
the neighborhood. Please also plan to be at your parade-watching location no later than 11 a.m.

Barricades at entrances to Worthington Hills will be removed by the police as soon as possible following
the conclusion of the parade.

July 4th Parade Street Closures (beginning at approximately 11 a.m.):

  • Clubview Blvd S at Clubview Blvd N
    • Traffic westbound from SR-315 will be diverted to southbound Colony Way
  • Clubview Blvd S at Colony Way
    • Colony Way will become southbound-only traffic
  • Clubview Blvd S at:
    • Southview Drive
    • Candlewood Drive (limited traffic on Candlewood Drive due to Parade)
  • Beechlake Drive
    • Candlewood Lane (still passable for inbound/outbound traffic)
  • Clubview Blvd N at:
    • Lookout Point Drive
    • Mission Hills Lane
    • Singing Hills Lane
    • Hickory Ridge Lane
  • Highview Drive at Lookout Point Drive
    • Parade traffic only westbound to Highview Drive and Clubview Blvd N
  • Blind Brook Drive, north of Golfview Ct, is the parade staging entrance with eastbound parade
    traffic only onto Blind Brook

Barricades: Perry Police will set up different types of barricades on many streets throughout our
multiple-day July 4 th Celebration. Some of these barricades will be in place for the Firecracker Trot 5K on
June 29th, others will be in place on July 4th . Each barricade is placed for a specific reason. It is essential
that residents and guests refrain from moving any barricades.

No parking: Several streets in the neighborhood will be clearly marked by Perry Police as “NO PARKING”
zones. Please refrain from parking in these clearly marked locations and encourage your guests to do so
as well. These parking restrictions facilitate a safe parade line up process, and also ensure emergency
vehicle access throughout the area. Also, please avoid Worthington Hills Elementary School on Parade
Day, as that parking lot is reserved for our post-parade award celebration.

No Parking Restrictions:

  • No parking on Candlewood Drive around WHES, Fun Fest 6/30, and 7/3-7/4
  • No parking on Clubview N & S Parade Route starting 7/3
  • No parking on Colony Way starting 7/3
  • No parking on Highview Drive starting 7/3
  • No Parking on Mission Hills Drive starting 7/3
  • No Parking on Blind Brook Drive starting 7/3

A note on courtesy: We are very fortunate to have more than a dozen neighborhood residents
volunteer to serve as “marshals” on Parade Day to help maintain safety. We are also exceedingly
fortunate to have the full support of Perry Police in keeping our July 4th festivities safe for everyone each
year. We understand that road closures, no parking areas, barricades, and limits on parade day traffic
flow can be inconvenient. However, these necessary measures are for everyone’s safety. If you
encounter a parade marshal or police officer who is enforcing any safety rules, please be respectful
and courteous.
Thank you for your patience and understanding! Remember – their service is essential to
our enjoyment of the best and safest July 4th Celebration possible!

Sincerely,
Tara + Chris Schumacher (2024 July 4th Parade Chairmen) (t_m_rogers@yahoo.com)

We were so grateful to have the amazing Mrs G and Mrs Johansen, life-changing educators from our little neighborhood elementary school, serve as Grand Marshals of our July 4 Parade! ❤️🇺🇸From 2024 Parade Chairmen, Chris and Tara Schumacher❤️🇺🇸Fourth of July Celebration – Worthington Hills Civic Association (9)Fourth of July Celebration – Worthington Hills Civic Association (10)We fell in love with the Worthington Hills July 4th Parade 13 years ago, when our dearest of friends, Heidi and Jamey Shiffer, epic street float builders from Mission Hills, invited us to come watch their “little neighborhood parade.”Fourth of July Celebration – Worthington Hills Civic Association (11)Fourth of July Celebration – Worthington Hills Civic Association (12)Our daughters, Ella and Kate, were 2 and 3 then. We were immediately hooked - and in awe - that very first parade, and knew it was a magical experience that we’d never want to miss.Fourth of July Celebration – Worthington Hills Civic Association (13)Fourth of July Celebration – Worthington Hills Civic Association (14)Our daughters are 15 and 16 now, and Heidi and Jamey’s daughters, Claire and Camille, are now both graduated from high school! But this not-so-little neighborhood parade, Firecracker Trot, Fun Fest and Stars and Stripes Softball Games have been bringing us joy for all those years in between. Fourth of July Celebration – Worthington Hills Civic Association (15)Fourth of July Celebration – Worthington Hills Civic Association (16)It’s impossible to describe the magic of this four day celebration, which is the absolute very best of Americana…to someone who hasn’t directly experienced it. This celebration is the very best of what can happen when neighbors take time away from the busy-ness and distractions of life to….spend weeks coming together to build street floats and design costumes and skits and dances…organize teams to ride in the parade…plan block parties…run a 5k with their kids…relive their glory days on the softball field….attend multiple events that allow them to hug and see old friends and meet new ones…all while creating the kind of core memories that define childhoods, and lifetimes. It is that community spirit, that willingness to put in the time and effort and creativity…year after year…which is the heart and soul that fuels the magic of the 4th in the Hills. So if you’re reading this, friends, please seek out ways (big and small) to contribute to the magic. ❤️🇺🇸Tomorrow’s July 4th core memories are counting on you! ❤️🇺🇸And we absolutely promise that every ounce of energy you put into these one-of-a-kind neighborhood events will come back to you, tenfold....
