As an allergy mom, I know it can be hard to find dairy-free and egg-free sandwich bread at the store.

Add in the need for soy-free, and you may as well be looking for a unicorn.

That’s why I’ve learned how to make our own allergy-friendly sandwich bread at home!

And trust me, it’s tasty. So fluffy and soft. You won’t miss the milk, egg, or soy one bit.

I use my stand mixer for so many easy recipes, including this homemade bread.

That’s why it’s always on my countertop, ready to go.

What can I say? I’m a kitchen minimalist.

Why own a bread machine AND a heavy-duty mixer when my mixer can do both jobs?

The mixer is versatile and works so well…even though I just have a small classic one.

When I make bread in my stand mixer, the dough hook perfectly kneads the dough in just two minutes.

All I have to do is mix ingredients together, make sure the yeast is happy…

and be patient enough to let it raise two times for an hour each.

To make this basic white bread super allergy-friendly,

use dairy-free milk and dairy & soy free butter. It’s already eggless!

For dairy-free milk, we’ve used almond, oat, and even coconut milk. Any favorite dairy-free milk should work fine.

If you need soy-free butter, check brands like Melt or Earth Balance.

Not all Earth Balance butters are soy-free so double-check labels, as always.

HOMEMADE DAIRY FREE BREAD RECIPE

See our quick bread video in this post, too!

Makes one loaf.

INGREDIENTS

1/4 cup dairy-free milk
1.5 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoon dairy-free butter
1 package dry active yeast, 2 and 1/4 teaspoons
3/4 cup warm water, 110-115 degrees F
2.5 – 3 cups all-purpose flour

DIRECTIONS

1. Make The Bread Dough

Grease a small bowl with dairy-free butter.

Heat together in the microwave, for about 30 seconds:

1/4 c. dairy-free milk
1.5 tbs. sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 tbs. dairy-free butter

In a separate measuring cup, heat 3/4 c. water in the microwave to lukewarm (110-115 degrees F).

Mix 2 and 1/4 teaspoons (one envelope) dry active yeast into the warm water.

Warm your mixing bowl with warm water and then wipe it dry.

Pour the warm milk and warm water mixture into your warmed mixing bowl.

Attach dough hook.

Add 2 cups of flour to the liquid in the mixing bowl and start mixing on low speed (speed 2 on Kitchen Aid mixers).

Add an additional 1/2 to 1 cup of flour, mixing on low speed, until the dough clings to the hook and the bowl is clean.

2. Knead The Bread Dough In Mixer

Set a timer for 2 minutes and continue kneading the dough on low speed (setting 2 on Kitchen Aids) with the dough hook.

After the 2 minutes of kneading, remove the dough from the hook and place in your small greased bowl. Turn the dough once to grease all sides with the dairy-free butter.

3. Raise Bread Dough First Time

Cover your bowl of dough with a clean towel and set in a warm, dark place for an hour until it doubles in size.

4. Shape The Bread Dough

After the first rise, punch down the dough in the greased bowl.

Put the dough on a clean cutting board.

Flatten the dough out into a rectangle with your hands.

Roll it up loosely long-wise (about 3 folds) and pat the ends smooth until it’s the shape of a loaf.

Place in a greased bread pan, seam-side down.

5. Raise Bread Dough Second Time

Cover the bread pan again with the clean towel.

Set in a dark, warm place until double in size again.

6. Bake Your Homemade Bread

Once the dough is double in size inside the bread pan, heat oven to 400F.

Bake 25-30 minutes until the internal temperature at center is 190F, probing through the middle side.

The top will be brown for quite a few minutes, but keep baking until that internal temperature of 190F is reached for the best results.

Remove from bread pan and cool on a wire rack.

Cut slices as needed, using a bread knife, so the bread doesn’t dry out too soon.

Store cooled bread loaf in an airtight container, like a gallon size baggy.

We hope you enjoy this homemade dairy-free, egg-free, and possibly soy-free bread as much as we do!
